Seawater carbonate calculator
Give it two seawater measures like alkalinity and pH. Get the full carbonate chemistry worked out.
Seawater carbonate calculator is a free AI skill for the job "Track your numbers". Give the instructions to an AI assistant that supports the required files and tools, then review its output.

What it does
A full carbonate chemistry table for each seawater sample, worked out from two measures such as alkalinity and pH. You get pH, pCO2, carbonate ion, aragonite and calcite saturation, and the Revelle factor, with a note of the assumptions used. First it checks your inputs: the units, the salinity scale, the temperature you measured at, the pressure and the pH scale. Missing values are never turned into zero. It can move a sample from lab conditions to ocean conditions. It can also show how your measurement error changes the answer. It uses PyCO2SYS in Python and covers seawater only.
You give it
- Two measured carbonate variables with units
- Salinity, temperature and pressure
- Which pH scale was used
- Sample IDs and quality flags
- Measurement uncertainties (optional)
You get
- A carbonate speciation table
- Mineral saturation estimates
- Results converted to ocean conditions
- Uncertainty propagation
- A record of the assumptions
Use it when
- You have bottle samples with alkalinity and DIC and need the full carbonate system.
- You are running an ocean acidification experiment and need saturation states.
- Your pH was measured in the lab and you need it at sea temperature.
- You want to know how much your measurement error changes the answer.
How to use it
- Add it to your AI once: download it and add the folder to Claude, ChatGPT or Codex as a skill.
- Ask for the job in your own words. Your AI opens the skill when it fits.
- It works best when your AI can run Python code.
