What it does
Most people sign a contract after skimming it. The risky parts sit in a few clauses: who owns what you make, what you pay if things go wrong, and how you get out. Reading all of it takes hours, and a lawyer's time is costly when you do not yet know which parts to ask about. The workflow reads the contract clause by clause against your rules and suggests edits with a fallback for each. Then it checks the ownership, licence and indemnity clauses on their own, because they are the hardest to fix once signed. Last it writes a plain summary for the person who has to say yes. A pause comes at the end: take the summary, the edits and the flagged clauses to a qualified lawyer before you sign.
You give it
- The contract, as a file or pasted text
- Which side you are on, such as buyer, seller or partner
- Your deadline and the points that worry you
- Your usual rules for contracts, if you have them (optional)
You get
- A clause-by-clause review with each gap rated, and suggested edits with fallbacks
- A check of who owns the work, what each side may use and who pays if it goes wrong
- A two-minute plain summary that says if you can sign and what the catch is
- A list of questions and flagged clauses for your lawyer
Use it when
- You were sent a contract and the deadline is close.
- You want to know which clauses to push back on before you talk to the other side.
- Someone else must approve the deal and needs a short summary, not 30 pages.
Steps
- Contract reviewer: Give it a contract and your rules. Get a clause by clause review and suggested edits. Have a lawyer check it.
- IP clause checker: Give it a contract. Get ownership, assignment, licence and indemnity clauses checked and flagged. A first check, not legal advice.
- Contract plain-words summary writer: Give it a reviewed contract. Get a two-minute summary of what to know before signing. A first check, not legal advice.
How to use it
- Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Paste the contract and say which side you are on. Add any rules you always use.
- When it finishes, take the summary and the flagged clauses to a qualified lawyer before you sign.
