What it does
Spend that chases sales this month tends to feed on people who are already ready to buy. Over time the pool of ready buyers shrinks, and results flatten. Spend that builds the brand reaches people who are not yet buying, and pays back more slowly and for longer. This skill sorts each of your channels into one of the two jobs, works out your current split and compares it with a starting point near 60 percent brand and 40 percent activation. That figure is a guide, not a rule. It compares your share of voice with your share of market to see if you are set to grow or shrink, checks that messages have an emotional side and that reach goes beyond existing customers, and proposes one small shift to test.
You give it
- Your spend by channel for a recent period
- Your scorecard or audit report of what each channel delivers
- Your market share and rivals' spend, if you know them (optional)
- Your brand file (optional)
- Brand brain (optional)
- Your results (optional)
- Competitors (optional)
You get
- Each channel sorted as brand building or sales activation
- Your current split beside a starting guide
- A share-of-voice against share-of-market check
- The smallest shift to test, with the expected effect and how long it takes
Use it when
- Most of your ad spend goes to people who are already looking to buy.
- Sales from ads are flat and you suspect you are fishing in the same small pond.
- You are setting next year's budget and want a reason for the split.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Paste your spend by channel and, if you have it, the scorecard from "Marketing scorecard builder".
- Add your market share and rivals' spend if you know them. If not, say so.
- Pick the shift it proposes and test it for the time it names before judging.
