What it does
A name that says the job saves you a lot of explaining. It comes to mind when the need shows up, and it tells people who should not buy to go elsewhere. A name built on your company, a founder or a technology tells them nothing. This skill starts from your job spec. It writes the job in plain words, then drafts names in four routes. It tests every name three ways: what a stranger would guess, whether it suggests jobs you do not do, and whether it looks like a rival or a category label. It ranks the top three with the sums shown, and writes a hire-it-when line and a not-for line for each.
You give it
- A job spec for one circumstance
- Your product and any names you have (optional)
- A plan from the Job experience mapper (optional)
- Brand brain (optional)
- Plan (optional)
You get
- The job in eight words or fewer
- Ten names across four routes
- Scores from three tests and a maker test, with the sums
- Three ranked picks, each with a hire-it-when line and a not-for line
- A rule for keeping the name from blurring
Use it when
- You are naming a product, range or service.
- Your current name says who you are, not what you do.
- You keep adding variants and the name no longer means one thing.
