What it does
People fix what they think is slow, and they are often wrong. The stage that feels slow may take a small share of the total, and the real cost sits somewhere nobody looked. Averages also hide the worst runs, which are the ones people remember. This skill starts by writing the slow moment in one sentence, then plans a timing of each stage with a real tool. It looks at the worst run, not the average, and compares each stage with the best it could be. It finds work that is skipped sometimes and done other times, ranks costs from biggest down, and names how each fix will be re-measured. Ideas the numbers kill are written off in a list.
You give it
- What feels slow, when it happens and how long it takes
- Timings, logs or a performance sheet, if you have them (optional)
- What you have already tried (optional)
- Your results (optional)
You get

- A worst-case view next to the average
- A ranked list of what to fix, biggest cost first, and a list of dropped ideas
Use it when
- Something feels slow and everyone has a different guess about why.
- A report, page or process is fine on average but terrible some of the time.
