What it does
A store you host yourself carries work that Shopify does for you: the server, caching, compression and updates. A slow WooCommerce store often has big images, too many plugins, scripts loading on every page and no caching. Many owners start by paying for a bigger host, when the cheaper fixes should come first. This skill follows a fixed order. It takes a baseline, fixes images, audits plugins, unloads files from pages that don't need them, checks compression and caching, adds a CDN, and only then asks your host for server upgrades. It spells out what must never be cached, such as the cart, checkout and account pages, because a wrong cache rule can show one customer another's cart. It is for self-hosted stores only; on a hosted platform the host handles most of this.
You give it
- Your hosting plan, PHP version, and any caching and CDN you use
- Your plugin list and your theme or page builder
- A speed report with server response time and the waterfall
- Whether you have a staging site (a private copy of your store)
You get
- An ordered fix list for images, plugins, assets, fonts, caching, CDN and hosting
- What to cache and what never to cache
- A staging test plan
- Questions for your host, only after the cheaper steps are done
Use it when
- Your store runs on WooCommerce or another self-hosted system.
- Your server response time (TTFB) is over 0.8 seconds.
- You pass about 100 orders a month and are still on shared hosting.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Run PageSpeed on mobile and desktop and note LCP and the score. This is your baseline; keep a dated log.
- Paste your hosting details, plugin list and the speed report with the waterfall.
- Make every plugin or setting change on a staging site first, one at a time.
- Test in an incognito window with throttling and the cache off, then with the cache on.
