What it does
You've seen it: you're about to tap a button and the page jumps because a bar or a banner loaded above it. Google calls this layout shift and scores it as CLS. A score of 0.1 or less is good, and above 0.25 is poor. Shifts cost sales when shoppers tap the wrong thing, and they can pull down your Core Web Vitals. This skill finds the exact element that shifts, then works through the usual causes in order: an app that adds a bar or widget late, images with no size set, a font swap, and clashing style rules. For each it writes the fix. It reserves space for widgets and tools you need to keep, such as cookie banners, rather than removing them. It also tells you when to recheck, because real-user data takes about 28 days to catch up.
You give it
- The PageSpeed CLS element list and loading filmstrip, mobile and desktop
- The page address and your theme code
- A list of apps that add visible widgets, such as bars, review stars and payment messages
- Screenshots of the page while loading (optional)
- Store capture (optional)
You get
- The element that shifts and its cause
- CSS or theme changes: reserved space, image sizes, a closer fallback font
- Test steps and the date to recheck real-user data
Use it when
- CLS is above 0.1 on mobile or desktop.
- A bar, widget or image pushes the page down as it loads.
- Search Console shows a Core Web Vitals warning for layout shift.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Duplicate your theme first: Online Store, Themes, the three dots, Duplicate. Edit only the copy.
- Paste the layout shift section from PageSpeed (mobile and desktop) and attach the filmstrip.
- Paste the theme code for the part of the page that moves, and list apps that add bars or widgets.
- Apply the fixes on the copy, run PageSpeed three times, and look again at real-user data in 28 days.
