What it does
On most store pages the largest thing in the first screen is the hero banner or the main product image. If that picture is lazy loaded, fades in, or waits for a gallery script, shoppers see a blank space while the rest of the page loads. Google measures this as Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), and it should be 2.5 seconds or less. This skill reads the LCP element from your lab report, then fixes how that one image loads. It sets the first-screen image to load at once with high priority, keeps lazy loading for everything below the fold, removes fade-ins and placeholders, adds a preload line to the head, and writes a Liquid loop so only the first slide in a slider loads first. It also sets size targets, so the file itself is not the delay. A slow server can still hold you back.
You give it
- The PageSpeed LCP element and the page address
- The section code for the hero or product gallery
- The image file, or its size and format (optional, attach it)
- Image (optional)
You get
- The edited image tag and section code, with eager loading and high priority
- A Liquid loop that loads only the first item eagerly
- A preload line for the head, per template
- Compression and size targets for that image, and a test list
Use it when
- PageSpeed shows LCP above 2.5 seconds.
- The first product image appears late or after a slideshow loads.
- Your hero is lazy loaded or fades in.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Duplicate your theme first: Online Store, Themes, the three dots, Duplicate. Edit only the copy.
- Paste the PageSpeed LCP element, the section file for the hero or gallery, and attach the image.
- Apply the edits on the copy, then test on slow 3G and slow 4G with the cache switched off in your browser.
- Run PageSpeed three times and compare LCP with before.
