What it does
A store that tries to suit everyone says little to anyone. A promise starts from the smallest group that would make the store worth running. You pick that group by what they believe and want, not by age or gender. Then you promise them one change in their life, in plain words. This skill follows a simple three-line template. It checks that the promise is a feeling or status shoppers want, such as belonging, peace of mind or control, and not a spec. It then lists five groups who should not be your buyer, and why choosing a rival is the right call for them. It does the sum on whether a few thousand people, or about a thousand true fans, could carry the store. It works for niche stores more than for staples. With no customers yet, talk to five people first.
You give it
- What you sell and the change it makes for the buyer
- Your best 10 customers, with what they believe, want and how they talk
- Recent non-buyers and reasons for lost sales (optional)
- Review lines, emails or survey answers in customers' own words (optional)
- Brand brain (optional)
- Customer words (optional)
You get
- A sketch of the smallest viable market by beliefs, wants and language
- A three-line promise
- A not-for-you list with the reason each group is right to pass
- A for-you and not-for-you block for the homepage, and the line a customer would tell a friend
Use it when
- You are launching a store and need one clear sentence about who it is for.
- Your homepage tries to talk to everyone and reads like every other store.
- You are choosing between customer groups and need to pick the smallest one worth serving.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Paste what you sell, the change it makes, and notes on your best ten customers. Real customer words help most.
- Say how many customers you have. With none yet, talk to five people first and bring the notes.
- Read the promise out loud. If it sounds like a spec, ask for a feeling or status version.
- Ask three customers for advice on it, not a verdict, and bring their answers back.
