What it does
Every process leaves something behind: scrap, offcuts, unsold stock, idle hours, repeat work. It stays hidden because it is spread across the week and nobody adds it up. Waste is also worth more than its material price, because labour went into it. This skill walks the whole process and lists everything thrown away, left idle or redone. It measures each in units, hours or money per month, values it by the labour that went into it as well as its price, and asks who would buy it or what it could feed. It asks what a rival wastes that you could buy cheaply, and ranks items by money recovered against effort. It notes what you already reclaim and what that costs.
You give it
- A description of your process, from input to finished product
- What you throw away, leave idle or redo, with any amounts you know
- A cost report or plan from "Step cost tracker" (optional)
- A sales or cost sheet (optional)
- Your results (optional)
You get
- A list of every waste item with a monthly number
- A value for each item, counted in labour as well as material
- A buyer or reuse for each, or "no use" marked
- The first three actions with owners and dates, and a re-count date
Use it when
- You throw away material, time or stock and suspect some of it has value.
- A step is done twice or redone because of mistakes.
- You have found a drain in your costs and want to turn it into money.
