What it does

Most money plans fail for a reason that has nothing to do with maths. The budget assumes a normal month, and no month is normal. The debt plan picks the wrong order. The spending that hurts is the spending with a story attached, and nobody checks the story. This workflow builds a plan that bends without breaking. It sets a monthly budget from your real numbers. It orders the debts so the payoff is fastest or cheapest, your choice. It reads the story behind your spending, in the manner of Morgan Housel: what you are really buying when you buy it. It then tests the plan for room for error: what happens in a bad month, a lost job, a surprise bill, following Housel and Benjamin Graham. Last it projects your savings forward with plain assumptions you can change.

Steps

  1. Personal budget builder: List your income and spending. Get a budget plan, such as zero-based or 50/30/20, and where money leaks.
  2. Debt payoff planner: List your debts and extra cash. Get snowball and avalanche timelines with total interest for each.
  3. Spending story reviewer: Paste a purchase you are weighing. Get what drives it, its hidden costs and a small test of whether it pleases.
  4. Room for error plan checker: Paste a budget or business plan. Get a survival score out of 100, where it breaks in a bad year, and fixes.
  5. Retirement savings projector: Give it your age, savings and goals. Get a projected nest egg and the gap to your target.

How to use it

  1. Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
  2. Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
  3. Paste your income, spending and debts. It builds the budget and the debt plan.
  4. Read the spending story and the room-for-error test. Decide what you will change.
  5. Set up the payments. Come back each quarter with the new numbers.
