What it does

Most slow or error-prone processes are full of steps nobody questioned. People work harder inside the process instead of asking whether a step should exist, and when a problem repeats, the fix is a patch on the symptom. The cause stays, and the problem comes back. This workflow follows the order from Taiichi Ohno's interview on the Toyota production system. First, it lists each step with its work time and wait time and marks it as something the customer would pay for or not. It names the kind of waste, finds the worst and asks who required each step. Then it uses the five whys on that waste: it asks why until it reaches a cause in your process or training, and checks each answer against the real place or record.

Steps

  1. Process waste finder: Paste your process step by step. Get each step marked value or waste, the worst waste named and one change to try.
  2. Root cause finder: Paste a problem that keeps coming back. Get a chain of whys checked against facts, the fixable cause and a prevention check.

How to use it

  1. Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
  2. Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
  3. Paste your process and the problem. It works step by step and saves each result.
  4. Go and look at the real place or record for any why it can't check, then bring back what you find.
