What it does
After three interviews, everyone has a favourite, and the debrief becomes a search for reasons. Daniel Kahneman has described in public why that goes wrong: one strong impression colours every other judgement, and a confident story beats a careful tally. The fix he describes is to score each trait separately from evidence and only add up at the end. This prompt does that tally. It fixes the criteria as behaviours you could observe, scores criterion by criterion across all candidates with a quote beside every score, and adds up last. It quotes any note that is a verdict ("great energy", "not a leader") and labels it a story. It shows where two interviewers read the same answer differently, lists what is still unknown per candidate with the one question that would fill the gap, and gives a ranking with an honest caveat.
You give it
- The criteria set before the interviews
- Notes on each candidate, per interviewer if possible
- The problem the hire must solve (advised)
You get
- A table scored from quoted evidence, totals last
- Verdict-style notes flagged as stories
- Split readings between interviewers
- What is still unknown and the ranking with its caveat
Use it when
- The team has a favourite and you are not sure why.
- Three interviewers wrote notes and they disagree.
- You want to be able to explain the decision to the people who did not get the job.
How to use it
- Copy the prompt, then paste it into Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini with your criteria and notes under it.
- Say who wrote which notes if you can.
- Read STORIES first. Decide as a team whether each one is evidence or impression.
- Ask the STILL UNKNOWN questions in a follow-up before you decide.
