What it does
A 3PL is a company that stores your stock, packs your orders and ships them. A bad one can slow every order and lose stock, and a bid with one blended fee makes it impossible to compare. This skill writes one request with your forecast, product sizes and past orders, so several 3PLs compete for your work. It splits each bid into pick and pack, inbound, outbound and storage. Outbound varies most, because each 3PL has its own courier deals. It lists agreement terms: a pick-on-time promise with a penalty, stock counts at least twice a year, and barcode scanning in and out. The numbers in the terms are one speaker's examples. A lawyer should check any agreement.
You give it
- A 12-month forecast and your order history
- Product dimensions and weights
- Ship-to countries and carrier needs
- Any bids you have already received (optional)
- Brand brain (optional)
- Spreadsheet (optional)
You get
- A request for pricing to send to several 3PLs
- A bid comparison split by cost type
- A site visit checklist
- A list of agreement terms with penalties, and a line to check with a lawyer
