What it does
An ad can be liked, remembered and still fail, because what people remember is not the claim. A second reason to buy, added to be safe, can pull attention from the first. A striking picture that has nothing to do with the words can do worse: people recall the picture and not the message. This skill scores the playback. It counts how many viewers said your claim, in their own words, and sorts the rest into other claims, pictures, people and sounds. It then reads the ad line by line to match what is said with what is shown. It tells you which element took the biggest share and what to cut. It also tells you what this test cannot do: it shows whether the claim gets across, not whether the claim sells.
You give it
- Your ad: script, storyboard or layout
- The one claim it should get across
- What each viewer said when asked: what did that ad say? Word for word, ten people if you can
- A draft (optional)
You get
- A playback count and what it means
- What viewers remembered instead, sorted by cause
- Each line checked for picture that does not match its words
- A cut list in order of share stolen, and a retest plan
Use it when
- Your team loves an ad and nobody can say what it promises.
- You added a second benefit to an ad that was working and recall dropped.
- People remember the actor, the animal or the song, not the product.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Show the ad to ten people who have not seen it. Ask only: what did that ad say? Write their words down.
- Paste the ad, the claim you meant, and all ten answers.
- Make the cuts, then test again with ten new people.
