What it does
Rosser Reeves ran the Ted Bates agency on one rule: an ad should make one promise to the buyer that rivals do not make, strong enough to bring in new buyers. Most ads fail it. They praise the product, say five things or show a pretty picture that has nothing to do with the words. This workflow follows his method in order. It first checks that your product has a difference a buyer could notice, or that you could make one. It drafts claims from three places: a real difference, a product change, and a true fact every rival has but none says. It tests the best claim on three tests. It then writes a short demonstration with each spoken line locked to a picture of the same thing. You show the result to ten people and bring their answers back, and it counts how many repeated your claim and…
You give it
- Your product facts, with what it does, how it is made and how it is used
- What rivals say in their ads or on their pages (optional)
- Customer words, such as reviews (optional)
- After the pause, what ten viewers said the ad said, word for word
- Customer words (optional)
- Competitors (optional)
You get
- A verdict on whether your product has a difference buyers could notice
- Three to five claims, one sentence each, ranked, with the weak ones struck out
- A pass or fail on the top claim against three tests, with fixes
- A script table matching every spoken line to a picture that shows it
- A playback count, what stole the rest, and what to cut
Use it when
- Your ads say many things, or your product looks the same as its rivals.
- You need one claim buyers will remember and act on.
- People like your ad but cannot say what it promises.
Steps
- Product differentiation checker: Paste your product facts and won and lost deals. Get a verdict: truly the same as rivals, or only described badly.
- Selling proposition finder: Paste your product facts and rivals. Get three to five one-sentence selling claims to build an ad on, ranked by pull.
- USP claim checker: Paste an ad and your product facts. Get a pass or fail on whether its one claim is real, unique and strong.
- Claim demonstration planner: Paste your claim and product facts. Get a short script where every spoken line has a picture showing the same thing.
- Ad distraction checker: Paste your ad and ten viewers' takes on it. Get what stole their attention and what to cut.

- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Paste your product facts and any rival ads. Ask it to run the first four steps.
- Show the script or a rough cut to ten people who have not seen it. Ask only what it said, and write their words down.
- Bring the answers back for the last step.
