What it does
Most people are sure they understand more than they do. The edge of your knowledge is hard to see from inside, so a decision that looks easy can sit just outside it. A real area of competence has a known boundary. If you cannot say where yours ends, it is probably smaller than you think. This skill splits a decision into the parts you must understand and asks for evidence for each. It marks each part known, partly known or not known, shows where the edge is, and checks whether others have an advantage you lack. It gives a verdict and the rule that goes with it.
