What it does
Many mysteries fail in the same two ways. The solution is a surprise the reader could not have reached, or it is so well hinted that it is obvious. Both come from planning forward from the first scene rather than back from the answer. This skill fixes the solution first: who, how, why and when. It picks a closed setting and a small cast, lists real clues and planted ones, and sets each clue in a scene where it can be seen but not noticed. It chooses a trusted viewpoint that misreads the facts, and builds a timeline of what each person did and felt. It tests the least likely answer, cuts any person who adds no clue, and writes the final explanation last, step by step.
You give it
- The crime or puzzle
- Setting and cast, if you have them (optional)
- Length and form (optional)
- Your draft clues or ideas (optional)
You get
- The solution, fixed in four lines
- A clue map: real and planted clues, scene by scene
- A timeline of what each person did and felt
- The final explanation, in order, with the clue behind each step
Use it when
- You are plotting a mystery, thriller or short story and the twist keeps falling flat.
- You are building a murder-mystery party, escape room or puzzle hunt that must be fair.
- You need a reveal at the end of a presentation or campaign that people feel they could have seen coming.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Describe the crime or puzzle and the form you are writing in.
- Say whether you already know the answer. If not, say you want options.
- List any characters or places you want to keep.
- Read the clue map as a solver would, scene by scene, and mark anything you would have caught.
