What it does
Many jobs lose time before anything is made. A person fetches a part, waits for a tool or turns to a different task. Each small trip repeats hundreds of times and nobody sees the total. This skill lists the steps in order and counts the moves each person makes. It places tools and people in the order of the work so each part travels the shortest distance, and gives each person one set place to pass the work on. It splits the job into small steps, times each one, and groups steps by skill so each person does a few. It asks staff what they see before rollout and tests the change on one job.
You give it
- The job and its steps in order, with who does each
- The space or the tools available
- Rough times for each step, if known (optional)
- What staff say slows them down (optional)
You get
- A layout in words, in the order of the work
- A before and after count of steps and moves
- A list of small steps with times, each marked measured or guessed
- A one-job trial and a staff check
Use it when
- A job takes many people and a lot of walking, searching or waiting.
- You are setting up a space, a kitchen, a desk or a workshop for repeated work.
- Output stalls because people switch between tasks.
