Build a lesson from explanation to practice and a quiz
Give it the topic and learners. Get a lesson plan, worked examples, a practice set and a quiz.

What it does
Hard topics are usually taught by explaining them well and hoping. The explanation is clear, the learners nod, and a week later they cannot do the thing. The lesson had no worked examples, the practice came too late or not at all, and the quiz tested the words rather than the skill. This workflow builds the lesson in the order evidence supports. It plans direct teaching: what to say, what to show, in what order, with checks for understanding built in. It builds worked examples that fade step by step into the learner doing it alone. It writes a practice set that moves from easy to hard, and a short quiz that asks learners to recall, not recognise. Then it checks the whole lesson for overload: too many new ideas at once, too much text, too few pauses, and cuts or splits what a learner cannot hold.
You give it
- The topic and the source material you teach from
- Who the learners are and what they already know
- How long the lesson is and how many learners
- A common mistake learners make (optional)
- Document (optional)
You get
- A direct teaching lesson plan with checks for understanding
- Worked examples that fade into independent practice
- A practice set and a recall quiz with answers
- An overload check with what was cut or split
Use it when
- You teach a topic learners keep getting wrong.
- You are training staff on something technical and have one session.
- Your lessons explain well but learners cannot do the task afterwards.
Steps
- Direct teaching lesson builder: Give it a skill. Get a lesson that moves from you showing it, to practice together, to practice alone.
- Online worked example builder: Give it a skill. Get step-by-step worked examples for online lessons, with help that fades as students learn.
- Practice problem set writer: Give it a skill. Get practice problems that rise in difficulty and vary just enough, for worksheets or homework.
- Retrieval quiz writer: Give it a topic. Get low-stakes recall questions at easy, medium and hard levels for starters or revision.
- Overloaded lesson checker: Paste a task or handout. Get the places that overload learners, with changes that lighten it.
How to use it
- Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Paste the topic, the source material and who the learners are. It plans the lesson and builds the examples.
- Read the practice set and the quiz. Check the answers yourself.
- Read the overload check and teach the trimmed version.
