What it does
Units are often planned topic by topic, in blocks, with revision left to the last week. Students do well on the test at the end of each block and forget it a month later. Teaching feels fine, and recall is poor. The steps change the order of the work. First it plans backwards: the end goal, then the proof of learning, then the lessons that lead to it. Then it takes that plan and mixes related topics through the later lessons, so old ideas come back before they fade. Last it takes the mixed plan and sets dates to return to each topic, with a short retrieval task each time.
You give it
- The standards or goals for the unit
- The number of lessons and the dates, or the term length
- Your current topic order, if you have one (optional)
You get
- A unit plan worked back from the end result and the proof of learning
- The same plan with practice of related topics mixed through the lessons
- A calendar of dates to bring each topic back, with a retrieval task for each
Use it when
- You are planning a new unit or a term from standards.
- Students do well at the end of a topic and forget it by the next one.
- Revision is a rush before the exam instead of something built in.
Steps
- Backwards unit planner: Give it your standards. Get a unit planned from the end result, then the proof of learning, then the activities.
- Mixed practice unit planner: Paste a topic order. Get a plan that mixes related topics through the unit for stronger recall.
- Revision schedule planner: List your topics and dates. Get a spaced revision schedule that brings each topic back at the right gaps.
How to use it
- Download the handoff pack. It is a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Paste your standards and say how many lessons and weeks you have.
- Read the proof of learning in step one. Change it now, because the later steps are built on it.
- Check the revision dates against your real school calendar before you share them.
