What it does
A plan grows one reasonable request at a time. Each one sounds small, and nobody counts what the yeses cost together. Soon the six-week job is six months, and the product is pulling toward customers it was never for. The first step puts your plan on one page: goal, audience and limits. The second cuts that page to a six-week bet, names what it will not build and sets the default answer to no. The third takes your request list and starts every request at not now. It counts how many different people asked, adds up what each yes would cost, and checks it against the bet. You end with a list you can send back, each with a reply.
You give it
- Your product plan, goal and who it is for
- Your team size and any fixed date
- The list of requests, with who asked and when
- Customer comments about the product (optional)
- Customer words (optional)
You get
- A one-page brief with goal, audience, limits and what could go wrong
- A six-week bet with a small team and a list of what you will say no to
- A yes, later or no on each request, with the full cost of every yes
- A short reply to send for each request
Use it when
- Your plan keeps growing and the date keeps slipping.
- Requests arrive faster than you can judge them.
- You want to say no kindly and have the reason ready.
