What it does
Most businesses picture an ideal customer from a guess or from a stereotype. Your list of real customers tells you more: some pay more, stay longer and are easier to serve. What they have in common is who you should look for. This skill sorts customers by what they paid, how long they stayed and how much you like working with them. It keeps the top fifth and reads their answers on goals, what made them buy and where they first heard of you. It finds the fewest traits all of them share, usually three to five, and writes the profile in plain words. It names who does not fit, lists the channels the top group came through and says what the data cannot show yet.
You give it
- A customer list with what each paid and how long they stayed
- A note on how well each one is to work with (optional)
- Survey answers or reviews from customers, in their words (optional)
- Your brand file (optional)
- Brand brain (optional)
- Customer words (optional)
You get
- The top fifth of your customers
- The three to five traits they share, each checked against the group
- A plain profile and who does not fit
- The channels the top group came through, and what the data cannot show
Use it when
- You want to know who to aim your marketing at, using your own customers.
- You treat all customers alike, though a few bring most of the money.
- You are about to write an ideal customer profile and want to base it on data.
