What it does
Many marketing plans start with a channel and then look for the audience on it. That leaves you guessing where your buyers are. And more and more searches and posts end without a click, so a plan that counts only visits misses much of the picture. This skill starts with the audience instead. It defines your buyers by what they do, then maps what they read, watch, listen to and follow, with the evidence for each. It marks which places send people on to your site and which keep them on the page, finds topics they discuss before they search, and picks the few places where one useful post or guest spot would reach them. Each pick gets a lift measure, so you can tell if it worked.
You give it
- Who your buyers are and what they do
- Customer words that mention where they read or ask for advice (optional)
- Traffic, survey or follower data (optional)
- Brand brain (optional)
- Customer words (optional)
You get
- A map of the places your audience gives its attention, each with its evidence
- The topics they discuss before they search
- Three to five places to start, with what to publish in each
- A lift measure for each place and a date to re-run
Use it when
- You are planning where to spend your marketing time and have no data on where your buyers are.
- Your site traffic is falling and you want to know if your audience moved.
- You are choosing between starting a podcast, a newsletter or guesting on someone else's.
