What it does
A story in parts fails when each part is only a step toward the next. Readers drop out in the middle because nothing in the part they are reading is worth finishing. Others lose the thread because the shape was never decided. This skill fixes the ending and three or four turns before anything else. It splits the story into parts and gives each a single job and a size. Part one opens with a plain fact, a person and a place. Each part ends on a question or a shock that costs the main person something. The change of heart is spread across steps. The plan also marks a point to read aloud to real people and says how to change the next parts based on what they say.
