What it does
A name can look fine on a list and fail in real life. People mis-spell it, so they cannot find you. It sounds like a bigger rival. It means something else in a market you sell in. Finding this out after you have a logo, a domain and a stock of packaging costs far more than testing now. This skill runs each name through five scored tests: spelling and search, ease of saying, surprise, sound fit, and clear of rivals. Each is worth 20 points. It also checks name type, growth room, meaning by market, and shows each name in five places a shopper will see it. It reports risk only. It cannot clear a trademark, so you check trademarks and domains yourself, and a lawyer should check trademarks.
You give it
- Two to five names to test
- What you sell, who buys it, and the main benefit
- Your top three rivals' names
- The feeling the name must carry, such as fast, trusted, soft or strong
- The countries and languages you sell in (optional but valuable)
- Brand brain (optional)
- Competitors (optional)
You get
- A score out of 100 per name, with a test-by-test table and how the score was worked out
- A keep, fix or drop call and a one-line reason a stranger would remember it
- Five mock-ups per name and a believability line
- A list of items to check with native speakers and with a trademark search
Use it when
- You have a shortlist of two to five names and need to pick one with reasons.
- You are about to buy a domain, a logo or packaging and want a last check on the name.
- You are adding a new product line or bundle and want to test its name before launch.
How to use it
- Start a chat with the skill. Open it if you added it to your AI, or copy it and paste it in.
- Paste your names, what you sell and your rivals. Add the markets you sell in.
- Say the name out loud to five people and ask them to write it down. Bring the results in so the spelling test has real data.
- Read the table, then fix what the fix calls name. Run it again on the changed names.
- Do the trademark and domain checks yourself before you commit.
