What it does
Most weak copy is written before the writer knows the product. The best lines are often already in the source material, in the maker's own words, buried on page 40. A writer who has not read it all writes generic lines. This skill reads your material several times, marks every strong phrase, and collects them in one plain list. It keeps your product's words and marks any idea of its own apart. It sorts the list into piles by use, finds the most dramatic points, and shortens each long idea into a ten-word headline to force it tight. Every claim is traced back to the source page.
You give it
- The product material: a book, manual, spec sheet, product page or transcript
- Customer reviews or buyer words (optional)
- Customer words (optional)
You get

- Piles sorted for headlines, long copy, side notes, proof and demonstrations

- A ten-word headline for each long idea
Use it when
