What it does
When a paragraph says "she felt lost" or "it was a wonderful day", the reader has to take your word for it. Telling is quick, but it keeps the reader outside the moment. What works is the thing they can picture: the unopened mail, the cold coffee, the chair left out. This skill lists what happened in plain order and finds one exact detail that carries the feeling. It cuts each feeling word and puts its cause in its place. It shortens sentences, links actions with "and" for speed, and leaves out what the reader can see for themselves. It never adds events you did not give it. It ends on an action or a plain line, and reads the result for rhythm.
You give it
- The paragraph that names the feeling
- Facts about what happened (optional)
- Who is telling it and how formal (optional)
You get
- The paragraph rewritten in short, plain sentences
- A list of feeling words cut and what replaced each
- The one detail it used and where it came from
- Gaps marked where it needs a fact from you
Use it when
- Your story or customer case reads like a summary of feelings.
- A speech or post says "amazing" and "incredible" and nobody believes it.
- You have the facts of a scene but the writing keeps explaining them.
