What it does
A message made for everyone fits no one. When you water it down to suit the average buyer, no one feels it was made for them, so no one repeats it to a friend. Many small businesses stay stuck because they are afraid to say who they are not for. This skill lists the groups you could serve, and what people like them do and believe. It works out how many customers you need, and picks the smallest group that could supply them. It writes who you are not for, what would delight the group in specific terms, and the standard you will hold. It then names the first ten people and plans how word of mouth would carry the work to people like them.
You give it
- What you make, who you serve now and who you could serve
- The income the work needs and the yearly price per customer (optional)
- Reviews, emails or call notes (optional)
- A buyer persona (optional)
- Customer words (optional)
You get
- The groups and what people like them do and believe
- The smallest group worth serving, in one line, with the numbers
- Who you are not for
- What would delight them, the standard you will hold and the first ten people
Use it when
- Your offer, website or ads speak to everyone and get little response.
- You are about to launch and cannot say who it is for in one sentence.
- You are choosing between two audiences.
