What it does

Most writing habits fail in the second or third week. The goal was too big for a bad day, the finish line was vague, and one missed day turned into a month. Writers also say they have no time to read, even though reading is half of the job. This workflow builds the habit in small, firm parts. It begins with a first step you can do on your worst day and a plan for restarting after a miss. It then sizes a daily word count to your real minutes and works out the date you will finish. It fits reading into the gaps in your week. After two weeks of writing, you give it your log, and it counts the days you hit, projects your finish date and names one change. The method comes from Stephen King's book On Writing.

Steps

  1. Habit plan builder: Say a habit to start or stop. Get a two-minute first step, a cue, ways to add friction and a restart plan.
  2. Daily word quota planner: Say your length and writing days. Get a daily word count, a finish date and a closed-door routine for one first draft.
  3. Writer's reading plan builder: Tell it your free minutes and goal. Get a weekly reading schedule with the sums and a book mix that teaches.
  4. Writing log reviewer: Paste your plan and your daily log. Get days hit, pace, finish date, a score out of 100 and one change.

How to use it

  1. Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
  2. Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
  3. Give it your project, your hours and your week. It works step by step and saves each result.
  4. Write at the same time every day for two weeks. Log the date, the start time and the words, including the zero days.
  5. Come back with the log and run the last step.
