What it does

When every rival says "quality" and "trust", buyers hear one voice and pick on price. Copying the leader's words makes it worse. You need a spot on the map that is open and a message you can prove in a few minutes. The steps go from wide to narrow. First it lists every real alternative, including doing nothing, and plots them on two axes buyers feel. Then it finds the one word each rival owns and the words nobody can own. Last it matches your proven strengths against what rivals are weak at, keeps only the pairs a buyer can check, and tests each rival's best reply. Give it your product facts and, if you have them, buyer quotes and your brand file.

Steps

  1. Competitor positioning map: Give it your product and rivals. Get an XY map and the one corner you can own.
  2. Competitor brand association map: Paste your rivals and what buyers say. Get the word each rival owns, words nobody can own and the open ones.
  3. Rival weakness message finder: Name a rival and your strengths. Get the one strength that is also their weakness, as a message you can defend.

How to use it

  1. Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
  2. Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
  3. List five or more rivals, including the cheap option and doing nothing.
  4. Only give strengths you can show with a number, a policy or a review. It drops the rest.
