What it does
Quitting is hard to judge when you are tired. Reasons to stay and reasons to leave mix with fear, and whichever view you hold gets stronger. Without a date, the choice stays open and keeps costing you. The steps separate the judging from the feeling. First the facts are written down and you get one call: push on, change course or stop. Then someone who knows the field argues the opposite case in their own words, and each point is marked answered or open. Next the plan is searched for any loss you could not recover from, and a limit is set on it. The last step sets how much proof is enough, names the cheapest fact to get first and fixes the date to decide.
You give it
- The project, its start date and what you have put in
- What results you have had and when
- Your reasons to stay and to quit, honest and unsorted
- What is at stake if it fails, such as money, time or your name
You get
- A call to push on, change course or stop, with a reason and a date
- The three strongest arguments against that call and which ones you can answer
- The loss you could not recover from and a way to cap it
- How much proof is enough, the first fact to get and a date to decide
Use it when
- You have thought about quitting for weeks and keep going back and forth.
- You have put in a lot of time or money and cannot tell whether more will pay off.
- You must tell a partner or team whether you are staying.
Steps
- Project continue-or-stop review: Paste a project you are tempted to quit. Get a call: push through, change course or stop, with the reason.
- Decision counterargument writer: Paste your plan or opinion. Get the best case against it, in the other side's words, and what would change your mind.
- Ruin risk stress tester: Paste a plan with money, time or your name at stake. Get the outcome that could ruin it and a capped-downside version.
- Decision evidence checklist: Paste a decision and what you know. Get how much evidence is enough, what to get next and a date to decide.
How to use it
- Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Write the facts first, such as dates, hours, money and results. Add feelings after, and mark them as feelings.
- Name the person who would disagree most. Step 2 writes their case.
- Put the decision date in your calendar before you close the last file.
