What it does
Most slow decisions are not slow because the choice is hard. They are slow because nobody said how much evidence is enough, so the team keeps asking for more. Waiting has a cost too, and it is often larger than the cost of being wrong on a choice you can fix. This skill makes the bar explicit. It lists the facts you wish you had and weights each by how much it could change the choice. It works out the share of that weight you already hold. It then sets the bar by the type of decision, compares the cost of being wrong with the cost of waiting, and checks how fast you would spot and fix a bad call. It ends with a decision date and the one cheap fact worth getting first.
You give it
- The decision, and whether it can be undone
- What you know now and what you wish you knew
- What waiting costs per week (optional)
You get
- A weighted list of facts, marked known, partly known or unknown
- Your information share as a percent
- The bar for this decision
- A decide now or wait verdict with the reasoning
- The one fact to get first and a call date
Use it when
- A team keeps asking for more data before it will decide.
- You are about to commit and want to know if you know enough.
- A choice has dragged on and each week of waiting is costing something.
