What it does
Looking through a rival's ads one by one gives you a feeling, not a plan. You see a few styles you like and copy them, so your ads join the pile. The useful facts are in the counts: which formats they use, how old the ads are, where they send people, and which kinds of ad nobody makes. The steps turn counts into briefs. First it counts the export by format, age, page, awareness stage and offer. Then it sorts the ads into nine types and finds the gaps that fit your brand. It writes three ideas with nine versions, each aimed at one buyer doubt. Last it lays out the test campaign: packs of four to eight ads, a budget split by stage and the rules for scaling.
You give it
- Ads or an Ad Library export from one or more rivals
- Your brand file (products, voice, claims you can make)
- Your own ad results (optional)
- Spreadsheet (optional)
- Your results (optional)
- Customer words (optional)
- Audit report (optional)
You get
- Counts by format, ad age, landing page, awareness stage and offer
- The ad types and buyer questions your rivals leave empty
- Three ideas with nine designer-ready versions and questions to settle first
- A test campaign layout with pack names, budget split and scale rules
Use it when
- A rival runs a lot of ads and you want to know what they have not tried.
- You have an Ad Library export and no time to read it ad by ad.
- You are about to brief a designer or editor and want the ideas grounded in what the market shows.
Steps
- Competitor ad format analysis: Paste an Ad Library export. Get ad counts by format, age, page and awareness stage, plus content gaps.
- Competitor ad opportunity finder: Share competitor ads. Find messages and formats they overlook, with briefs for ads you could test.
- Ad test brief writer: Paste your brand file and results. Get three ideas, nine designer-ready versions and questions for the founder.
- Meta test campaign planner: Give it your products, concepts and spend. Get a test campaign layout, ad pack names and scale rules.
How to use it
- Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Export ads from the Ad Library with inactive ads included, and pick rivals a step or two above your size.
- Give it your brand file. The briefs only use claims you can make.
