What it does
Ask a buyer why they chose you and you get a tidy reason that is often wrong. Ask what happened on the day, where they were, what else was in the trolley, and the real story comes out. It usually starts long before the purchase. This skill plans that kind of interview. It follows seven stops: the day they bought, the first thought, the event that made it urgent, looking around, deciding, the wait and first use, and what happened since. It adds probes for the social and emotional sides, questions about what they dropped, and a list of questions never to ask.
