What it does
Ask people about your idea and they'll be kind. They'll say it sounds great and that they'd buy it, and you'll build something nobody pays for. The problem isn't the people. It's the questions. This workflow keeps every conversation on the customer's life: the last time the problem came up, what they tried, what it cost them, and what they already do about it. It runs in two halves. The first half picks a group you can reach this week, writes the questions (including the one you're afraid to ask) and writes the messages that get you the talks. Then you go and have five to ten conversations. The second half sorts your notes into what people did, gave up and committed to, flags the compliments and wish lists that only feel like proof, plans the next step to ask each person for, and ends with a clear call and…
You give it
- Your idea in a sentence or two, and who you think it's for
- Any group of customers you already have in mind, and where they spend time (optional)
- Your notes from the talks, for the second half
- Brand brain (optional)
- Customer words (optional)
You get
- The group to talk to first, with where to find them this week
- A question guide about their life, your big three unknowns and the scary question, planned
- Messages that get you the conversations
- Your notes sorted into what people did, gave up and committed to, with the weak signals flagged
- A keep going, change or stop call with the reason, and the next three talks to have
Use it when
- You have an idea and want to know if it's worth building before you spend time or money on it.
- You've talked to people, everyone liked the idea, and you still don't know if anyone will pay.
- You're choosing between two ideas, or two groups of customers, and want evidence instead of a hunch.
Steps
- First customer group picker: Describe your idea and who might want it. Get who-and-where groups and the one to talk to first.
- Customer interview question writer: Paste your idea and draft questions. Get fixed questions about their life, your top three and a plan for the scary one.
- Customer conversation request writer: Say who you want to talk to. Get a warm intro note, a cold message and an opening line.
- Customer conversation notes sorter: Paste raw notes from customer talks. Get facts, praise and feature ideas told apart, plus the follow-up question for each.
- Sales next-step planner: Say where you are and what people said. Get the next step to ask for and which leads are real.
- Idea evidence review: Paste your beliefs and notes from customer talks. Get a keep going, change or stop call and your next three talks.
How to use it
- Download the handoff pack. It's a zip with HANDOFF.md and every skill file this workflow uses.
- Give the folder to Claude (in Claude Code, or as files in a Claude Project) and say "Follow HANDOFF.md".
- Describe your idea in a sentence or two. It runs the first half and stops.
- Send the messages and have five to ten conversations. Write notes straight after each one, as close to their words as you can.
- Bring the notes back and say "carry on from step 4". Read the call last, with the evidence it rests on.
